Vision & Mission

OUR VISION

Love Well   Change Lives     Through Christ

These six words capture the heart of who we aspire to be and remind us of why we exist as a church.

We love well because Christ calls us to live like he did (John 15:12-13). We seek to see lives changed so that we may present everyone mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28-29). None of this happens on our own strength, but through Christ and to his glory (Galatians 2:20).

So what does it look like for us to live out this vision — to see it come to life in our schools and workplaces, in our homes and our city? For us at Woodmen, this vision looks a lot like people — people giving themselves away for the sake of the gospel. We see God working through students and soldiers, professional men and women, artists and construction workers, kids and grandparents.

We realize God meets each of us where we are, so life-change won’t always look the same. But each day we can seek to be closer to Jesus than the day before. We believe each of us has a part to play in loving well and changing lives through Christ.

OUR MISSION VALUES

If you hang around Woodmen for long (which we hope you will!), you’ll hear four words pop up frequently in conversation:

Gather     Connect     Grow     Contribute.

These are our mission values — four commitments that we believe lay the groundwork for a Christ-like life. We invite everyone who calls Woodmen their church home to participate with us in living out these values. Let’s take a closer look.

GATHER: We gather to learn and lift up.

For centuries the people of God have gathered for biblical teaching and worship. We continue that tradition today as we faithfully study the Bible together and respond through worship. Each weekend worship gathering is a gospel-centered celebration of what God has done in our midst, and a catalyst for us to dive into the work of ministry in the days ahead.

CONNECT: We connect others to Christ, and ourselves with each other.

Everybody needs somebody. God designed us to live the Christian life in authentic community — to share life and encourage one another in the faith. We believe the Bible invites us to a radical kind of belonging. So crafting a culture of belonging is a big part of who we are. We’d love to say hello and hear your story, and provide opportunities for you to connect with Christ and others through Woodmen.

GROW: We grow into the image and likeness of Christ.

We know that the Christian life is about more than just an hour on Sunday. To cultivate the image and likeness of Christ in us, we need to commit ourselves personally to growth and to authentic community with friends who encourage our faith. To grow in Christ, we seek to apply God’s word in our lives and look to the whole body of Christ for encouragement and exhortation.

CONTRIBUTE: We contribute to the work of ministry through serving and giving.

The pattern of Christ’s life was one of sacrificial service and He calls us to follow His example. In response to His working and leading in our lives, we use the gifts He has given us to share His love. Through contributing our time, talents and finances, we seek to serve our church, our city and our world to the glory of God.
