This course is designed to serve not only parents but also grandparents by improving their ability to lovingly and productively partner in building their Christ-centered and grace-filled three-generation families. For example, grandparents will learn they should focus on ministering to the parents as much as the grandchildren. Parents will discover how to encourage and assist the grandparents in ways that maximize their many benefits for the whole family. Both generations will realize their roles and responsibilities (as well as their attitudes and behaviors) must change over time. They will also discover the importance of releasing younger generations to become independent, especially in their quest to know and follow Christ.
NOTE – this class is designed for any and all parents or grandparents who want to improve their intergenerational partnerships, not just those who are in the same family! It will also be helpful to couples who are not yet parents or grandparents but are expecting or want to be!
The instructors are Diana and Paul Miller, who have three adult children and eleven grandchildren. They have been members of WVC since 1989 and are lifelong educators. Diana had a career in speech pathology and early childhood education and has taught children’s classes and AWANA for many decades. Paul was a university professor for 40+ years and has taught senior adult Bible classes since 1985. They are volunteer leaders with the Christian Grandparenting Network and have spoken in varied settings on grand-parenting and parenting. In addition, they have written two books entitled, "A Guide to Great Grandparenting" and "A Parents' Guide to Great Grand-Partnering". (Class participants will receive a copy of the appropriate book for their generation.)
