HS Guatemala 2024 - Day 3

We woke up to the beautiful smell of pancakes and eggs. Once we were well nourished, we boarded the buses for an hour and a half drive to Cruz Blanca. Half of the team served at VBS while the other half went on home visits where we installed water filters and shared the story of the women at the well with the families. One memorable woman, Stella, started to share with us about how faith has impacted her life. It was inspiring to see that much excitement for the Lord. Though she may not be materially wealthy, her rich faith was evident to all of us.

The second round of VBS a lot of the kids didn’t come due to the weather. While we were waiting for more to join, we all gathered in the auditorium and sang and danced around. Gabby has an amazing voice especially singing in Spanish. After we sang, the Guatemalans showed us a couple of songs and dance movies of their own.

Coming back, tired after our long day of work, we had some awesome discussions on the bus before arriving at Mimi’s house. While we ate dinner we were serenaded by a Mariachi band — which was especially awesome when we sang Felíz Cumpleños to Josiah for his birthday. Drew delivered an inspiring devotion to us, challenging our team to persevere through any challenges that we face. We got a chance to hear some amazing testimonies during our debrief and enjoy some quiet time with the Lord before we went to bed.

Overall, we have been adapting to Guatemalan culture from the amazing hospitality of everyone we visited to tortillas at every meal. Through this experience we all are growing closer to each other and to God. Thank you for all of your constant support and please continue to pray for our team as we continue to work with UNUM in Guatemala.
