Guatemala College update #5

The team started today with the best sandwich production we have seen all week. The girls in room 42 (Analise, Avalon, and Lauren (myself)) have been hosting the sandwich making all week. Today, with the help of some of the boys, the team made around 27 sandwiches in 15 minutes. The Lord has been with us in all the laughter we share while making the lunches. The teamwork displayed in these 15 minutes of our days has carried on in VBS and house visits. We can always be found laughing and taking charge of different things. The simple sandwich making task has turned into such a blessing. 

Although we have fun in the hotel, most of of it usually happens outside of it. At VBS we tried to teach the kids the “Church Clap” dance. We were only semi-successful at this but the kids still loved it! We told the story of Rahab in our drama, and played water games. I saw the kids connecting with so many people on our team. They love to tell us their names, and help us learn a little bit more of their beautiful language. 

At our home visits today we had many wonderful conversations, and got a look at the families' lives in Jicamapa. A story that was very touching today was that a woman’s husband that we visited had moved to America. When we asked why, she replied that it was because he had been shot multiple times in Guatemala, and he was leaving to flee the violence. Even through all of this sorrow, the woman told us of how she and her daughters love church and praising the Lord. She was a huge example of having faith and gratitude even in the midst of pain. We all made valuable memories today and pray for many more to come in the few days we have left in Guatemala.
