Zambia #4
Today we had some amazing opportunities to connect with the community here in Lusaka. We started our morning with chapel at Cure, where we heard beautiful songs from the choir and sang along. We had a visiting pastor give the sermon reminding us to be leaders regardless of our position at work and that we can make a difference in the lives of those around us by something as simple as our smile.
We spent time in the outpatient ENT section making balloon animals and connecting with kids waiting to be fitted for hearing aids and other devices. We then spent time with the laundry staff (Timothy, Robert, and Matthew) where we cleaned windows and helped with the ironing. We got to know more about their families and children as we worked alongside them.
In the afternoon we had an amazing chance to visit a school in Lusaka where many of the kids are orphans and most cannot afford school fees. They are entirely reliant on donations and many teacher’s volunteer their time. We did a puppet show of Noah’s ark and a fun craft to go along with it. The kids sang songs for us and we gave them a book about Jesus to take home.
Finally, we went to dinner with the Executive Director of Beit Cure Zambia, Frieda, and the Finance Manager and learned more about Cure funding. In addition, they discussed with us the past, present condition, and future direction of Zambian development and shared stories with them from the week. We so enjoyed their company. As usual, we felt welcomed and loved by the team at Cure Zambia.
