Day 6 - High School Estonia - Sam Jensen
Hello There!
To start I would like to thank all of the supporters if the trip as we finish the last full day of camp. Unfortunately for me this might have been the biggest day at the camp so I am going to do my best to keep the blog in 8 short paragraphs including this intro in honor of the crazy octagonal building that we are in. To conclude the introduction I would like to warn you that I am bad at spelling and even worse on a phone. Please bear with me. (My gramar might also need some work as most of this was written past midnight)
The day started with people talking in the common room where we worshiped as well as where we has oir seminars. From what I heard there was also basketball going on at this time. I was not a part of either of these events becuase I was busy discussing with Tyler some theological questions that popped into my head. Then, we all went to bed. The continuation of the day came from the “gain train” which I happily slept through.
As was usual for the mornings of the camp we all (me) were forced to get up far to early (8:15) to have a morning devotional and the prepare for/ here about for the first time the day’s activities. Breakfast was the usual cereal, oatmeal, and coffee and as a whole I would say that it and the first teaching went by uneventfully though it is worth mentioning that our whole team is great at the camp dance.
At this point, we, given that it is an English camp, did our first English practice of the day. This was making god’s eyes which are these yarn designs we made with two sticks. The english practice came from asking others questions to get the yarn of your prefered color. This activity went well and oir group was mostly good at making these and talking to the campers but from what I saw and what I have heard, there were no amazing stories from that time.
Lunch was my favorite meal that we’ve had in Estonia so far. It was like a cross between deep dish pizza and lasagna. Almost immediately after lunch a large group went to the store a short walk away from the camp. I say this becuase me and 2 others bought 1.5 liters each of carbonated water thinking that it was regular. In the end, this went bady for me who opened it first though I managed to limit the explosion to Mitch’s bed area.
After that we all split to go to to workshops. One of them was about what the bible has to say about sexuality and the other one was about apologetics. I went to the one about apologetics. I think that on the whole our group enjoyed the talks. Then, a group of people at the camp went to a local pond to swim. They had a great time, and even did some America vs. Estonia relay races. There was a beach to hang out on, and everyone got to bond even more.
They day closed with the labrynth which we all went through in groups. In it we reviewed each of the lessons that we were told throughout the week and we did a small activity related to it. After the labrynth we prayed for all of the students and I know that at least Jillan (leader), Davis, and Cambell had good experiences with campers. We all went outside and hung out to the sound of worship music, ate some pankakes, and went to bed.
I’m kidding. We didn’t go to bed, never mind that it was like midnight, we did our team breakdown. It was a moment for the whole team as we shared the stories of the labrynth for those of us who had such stories though I have elected not to include the details of the stories to perserve them to be told in person. Then we stayed up a little later talking with the campers and writing notes for the camp mail. Then, in the period between 12:50 and 3:00 we all went to sleep at last. Shoutout to Iris and Jillian (not leader) for all the notes that the wrote pvee the entire day for the camp mail system. Although I was not sitting there with a timmer, I know that they put in at least an hour, mabye two doing nothing but writing notes to the campers. That sums up the day! Thank you for bearing with me both in spelling and in how late this is comming.
