Kenya HS 2022 Day 2

Hello family and friends of the Kenya team!

Today we spent the day in the company of the members of the Citam (Christ Is The Answer Ministries) Valley Road church. To start off the day, Jackson and Landon prepared a delectable breakfast consisting of gray eggs, bacon and toast. Though the meal looked questionable, it tasted incredible and surprisingly enough,  no one got sick. We then set off with Pastor Phoebe and our driver, Peter, for church. We were blessed with fantastic conversation and granted the ability to learn more about our amazing escorts, Phoebe and Peter as we embarked on our hour long drive to church. Once we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms and lots of smiles. Since we came early, we decided to sit in on the end of the first service. During that service, we learned the importance of offerings and how God blesses our lives when we decide to fully submit ourselves too giving all we can to God. At the end of the service, we were directed to a room where they had prepared tea and homemade bread for us. We went around the room sharing our names, where we were from and why we had come to Kenya. All the members of the church were overwhelmingly kind and hospitable toward us which made us feel so incredibly loved and cared for. From there, the church members directed us to join the youth fellowship and we were lead to another room that was packed with high school age kids. The joy from the people in the sanctuary radiated this infectious energy that impacted our team deeply. It was so cool to experience how our brothers and sisters in Christ worship the Lord differently from how we do. Kenyan worship consists of lots and lots of dancing which we found super fun and different from the typical worship we experience in the US. Kirby was then invited up on stage to talk a little bit about why we were there and what our mission was. We then listened to the sermon which lasted 2 hours. During the sermon, we learned about how we cannot live of the world while trying to live a life for Jesus. If God was able to give us the ultimate sacrifice, we can sacrifice partaking in worldly things in order to be obedient and honor God. We then enjoyed lunch in a small cafe next to the church with Phoebe and Peter and then headed back home. We ended our night by going on a monkey sighting hunt and watching a beautiful sunset right from our front porch of the guest house we are staying in. Tomorrow we begin our work in the hospital and we are so incredibly excited to get to listen to the stories of the patients and families that we come in contact with. God has readily equipped us to handle whatever trials may be thrown our way tomorrow, and we can't wait to share how the interactions we will have will impact both us, and the community we are working with.
