The aim of our Bible reading isn't first, "go and do," but "look and see."
In this 5-week class, Tim Davis will provide an introduction to seeing Jesus revealed in the Old Testament. Practically, this class will help you understand how the Bible communicates so you can read Scripture according to its redemptive story arch. This will enable you to behold your Savior in the Old Testament.
Suppose Jesus, the Apostle Paul, or the author of Hebrews taught a class on "How to Read the Bible." What kinds of tips, principles, and pointers do you think they'd provide?
In Luke 24, Jesus gives his disciples an insightful Bible study. According to Jesus, the entire Old Testament points to him and his work.
This includes books like Genesis, Exodus, Kings, and Ruth! But have you read Genesis, Exodus, Kings or Ruth—where does Jesus get the idea that these books point to him!?
Over the course of 5 weeks, we'll explore the following topics:
1) How do Jesus and the New Testament authors talk about the Old Testament?
> In this class, you'll learn to see Jesus in the Old Testament.
2) How does Genesis 1-3 help us understand the story of the Old Testament?
> In this class, you'll learn how to recognize humanity's need for Jesus in the Old Testament?
3) What are we to make of the "heroes" in the Old Testament?
> In this class, you'll learn to anticipate Jesus in the Old Testament?
4) Why are words and ideas found in the Garden of Eden repeated in the building of the tabernacle, temple, and beyond?
> In this class, you'll learn how Biblical themes enable us to hear Jesus in the Old Testament?
5) What if Adam and Eve never sinned?
> In this class, you'll learn to long for Jesus in the Old Testament.
If you’ve ever found yourself bored when reading the Bible, in need of assistance when navigating its rocky terrain, or wondering, “there’s got to be more to the Bible than the occasional pick-me-up or moral advice,” this class is for you!
