Estonia 26 Türi Day 3

Hey parents!

Today was our first day of official camp. We started off our morning with a team meeting before going down to a breakfast of delicious porridge with strawberries and blue berries. After breakfast we had our worship time as well as our camp dance and our first day of our series, outside the box. Today our first speaker was Ian and he spoke about how we must dare to step out of our boxes that may be holding us back from seeing greater, and more beautiful ways of living. After breaking into our small groups and discussing the message we all returned to the gym to create our own “shark tank” product which were then presented, tested, and judged by our very own sharks and audience.

Following our bargains, we then broke into two groups of workshops lead by members of our Estonian Turri team. The two groups were the “graham slam” and “imagination and creation”. In the first group, we all decorated our very own graham cracker houses with frosting and an assortment of sweets that were all inevitably, eaten. Our second workshop included receiving a paper of fifteen random words and then making up our very own three minute movies. These ranged from talking butterflies to shops in Nazareth and were all quite entertaining. We all headed inside and were given a hearty lunch of borscht soup and kissell (a rhubarb and cookie pudding).

We continued our day with free time and playing games outside. What started out as a fun and playful game, quickly became a competitive and engaging time of kickball and ultimate frisbee lead by Ben. Everyone was feeling the need for a pick me up so a mix of campers and leaders took a trip to the nearby store to deplete the entire stocking of energy drinks. Fun fact, here you need an ID. Upon arrival we continued our free time before dinner playing games, writing letters, and freezing trying to get the soap out of our hair in the ice cold shower.

Dinner tonight was an absolute classic Estonian feast. Potatoes, pickled pumpkin, carrots, all covered in gravy was a delightful way to replenish our depleted energy. As our day grew to an end, we returned to the gym where our second speaker, Anita, gave our second “out of the box” on dreaming outside the box and seeing things past the easy and present moments of our lives. We almost have our camp dance down and will be pros by Friday. After small groups, we had free time and the everyone went outside to play some epic games of capture the flag. We played till the mosquitoes swarmed and we were all in desperate need of sleep. The evening wound down and we all are ready for a well earned, six hours of sleep. Safe to say, it was a very successful first day of our Estonian English camp. :)
