The "U" Team Jun 26 #2

We have been busy adjusting to this new culture as we engaged in orientation, team building, catching local taxis, enjoying new foods, and for some, learning new concepts through teacher training over the past couple of days. Yesterday we caught a flight due west of the capital taking us to the teaching location for the week. We met our hosts, toured the learning center, and began preparing lessons. The English camp began today with around 120 students all coming to converse with us foreigners whose native language is English. There were emotions of excitement and anxiety, and everything in between as we began this week!

This morning started the first day of camp. After a short taxi ride, we arrived at the learning center where speeches of welcome and excitement kicked off the program. Teachers met and conversed with students while leaders rushed to printers, solved problems with electronics, an, most importantly, supplied a boost of caffeine from a local coffee shop to make it all possible. Many unexpected classroom situations were discovered and adapted to, as the first day brought in a variety of factors to adjust to for teachers. After sending the kids off from their first day of camp, we went out to lunch before returning to lesson planning. Now getting to know their classes, teachers were able to tailor their curriculum to their own specific situations. The day began with initial excitement and stress, and is ending with anticipation toward an even better day tomorrow in hopes of exuding His love and hope.
