Guatemala Day 1

Today, we started the day by waking up early and getting our things ready for our VBS group rotations. We ate a delicious breakfast of eggs and french toast made at Mimi’s house and then got on our way for the long drive to Cruz Blanca. On the drive, Eli looked out the window and on the street he saw a man getting picked up and thrown to the ground. Eli yells and screams oh my gosh. At this point, Quinn looked back and it seemed like there was a motorcycle wreck too. This story was talked about for the rest of the day, and the whole group greatly enjoyed listening to Kemper and Eli argue about quotes from the cara movie very early in the morning. After arriving, we talked to our host at Cruz Blanca, finalizing plans.

Around 10 am we greeted our first rotation of groups and started programming. After our rotations were done, we stopped for lunch and listened to one of the teachers at the school share their testimony. Then we welcomed our second group of kids and spent the afternoon doing crafts, games, and storytelling with them about the story of Noah. On the way back from Cruz Blanca we got to spend time bonding for a few hours in the bus as we traveled through heavy traffic. We arrived back at Mimi’s and were greeted with an amazing taco Tuesday that instantly lifted everyone’s spirits. After a delicious dinner and warm showers, we settled in and had a meaningful debrief of the day, an intimate worship time and some very personal testimonies. we all went to bed feeling closer than when we woke up, and I think we can say everyone had a great first day.
