Elder Candidate

Kurt Birky is a candidate for an elder role at Woodmen. He currently serves as the Product Development Director for Compassion International, where he helps steward and share Compassion’s story around the globe. Prior to his nine years at Compassion. Kurt oversaw the creative team at Focus on the Family. He’s passionate about adoption and caring for “the least of these,” Kurt and his wife, Margaret, have six children, three of whom are through adoption (international and domestic). 

If you are aware of any areas in his life that does not align with the biblical standards for elders outline in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3, please give him an opportunity to resolve the issue by emailing him directly.

Mike Byron

Mike and Angelina (and their three kids: Carter, Adia and Ethan) have attended Woodmen as a family since 2006. During their time here they’ve had the chance to be involved in Children’s ministry, A.C.T.S., Switch 56, the Finance Committee, as well as leading some small groups over the years. Part of their family ministry passions are directed at helping families connect within the Woodmen community, and then growing deeper in faith through study of God’s word. Mike works at David C Cook. In their spare time as a family they enjoy yard games, s’mores by the fire pit and getting outdoors.

Brian Flynn

Brian and his wife Stephanie have been members of Woodmen Valley Chapel since 2001. They have two children, Abbie and Jackson, who love being a part of Woodmens’ Student Ministries program. Having been to Russia, Swaziland, South Africa and Guatemala several times, Brian and Stephanie have a passion for global missions and serving orphan children around the globe.  No matter the culture or country, kids are kids and need to be loved without condition. Brian has also served in WVC's Student Ministries and has had the privilege to be with “his guys" from 6th grade through high school graduation and he now enjoys traveling to visit them in their college settings.

Brian is the managing partner at Flynn Accounting, LLC. He is an avid hobbyist including, racing cars, restoring and collecting cars, playing golf and long rides on his Harley.

Duane Jensen

Duane and his wife Linda have attended Woodmen since 1999 and have been members since 2004. Duane is active in Men’s Ministry leadership and shares his passion for deep heart/deep soul spiritual growth with the men. He is one of the Rockrimmon Refuge West group and ATM leaders.

Duane is a retired Colorado Springs business owner and is an avid reader and passionate golfer.

Josh Lindstrom

Josh is a gifted teacher and trusted shepherd with an 18 year track record of faithful and engaging church leadership. He comes to Woodmen after completing 10 years of fruitful ministry at Salem Chapel in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Lindstrom family has responded to what we all believe is the clear call of God on their lives to join the Woodmen team. Josh’s heart for ministry is the bold proclamation of God’s Word – emphasizing the truth of Scripture and its practical application. His skill and visionary experience in leading people to conform their lives to the life of Christ will help us continue to become the church God desires for Woodmen to be.

John Mulder

John and his wife Lynn have been active at Woodmen Valley Chapel since moving to Colorado Springs in 2001. John has served as an Elder since 2012 and currently serves as moderator.

John and Lynn have three adult children and one grandchild.  Together they have served as greeters and volunteers for A.C.T.S. Ministry. John has served on the Finance Committee, Center for Strategic Ministry and Impact Ministries Advisory Team. John is President of WaterStone, formerly Christian Community Foundation.

His ministry passions include small groups and Community and Global Impact. He travels to Kenya frequently and serves on a Board of a Kenya based mission 

Randy Scott

Randy and his wife BJ have been actively involved at Woodmen Valley Chapel since moving to Colorado Springs in 1995. Randy joined the Elder Council in 2008 and also serves on the board of the Center for Strategic Ministry (CSM) as Chairman and is actively involved in both Men’s and Community Impact Ministries. 

Randy is semi-retired but very active in the community through his consulting business where he works with nonprofits, businesses and ministry organizations. Randy loves reading, golf and motorcycles.

Randy and his wife BJ have two sons; Derek and his wife Katie, and their two daughters, Ellie and Sydney, live in Oklahoma City, OK; Kirk and his wife Debbee, and their four sons, Aidan, Brogan, Cashton and Daxson, live in Indio, CA.
